We closed out a grand year of lively discussions covering a myriad of subjects. Great Books 77 is ended.
Now it is time to look forward, to tackle the novel slated for the opening meeting of Great Books 78 (2023-24). On October 3, 2023, we will meet for a conversation about The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. This is not a difficult assignment, but it is a LONG one. You won’t read this in a week or two; rather you should plan on a couple months. Fortunately the novel is packed with adventure: tragedy, betrayal, vengeance, love, and more. The pages will fly by!
And for those sorely tempted to watch a movie of the same title — don’t. Just don’t. Do not assume a movie rendition can give you anything but a faint outline of this epic, sweeping adventure novel.
We will see you — in person or virtually — on October 3 for our conversation on The Count of Monte Cristo.
The remainder of the Great Books 78 / 2023-24 will be posted next week.
