The Inaugural Event of the GB Year: Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko

Feb 7, 2024

Great Books of Greater Cleveland is well known for discussing the classics in fiction and nonfiction. Yet even in its earliest years — the 1940s and 1950s — this group actively sought to include writers of classics from outside the conventional “Great Books of the Western World”.
We continue this tradition on Tuesday, March 5, 7:00 p.m. to discuss Leslie Marmon Silko’s iconic novel, Ceremony. Silko, a woman of Laguna Pueblo descent, is a gifted storyteller who has written novels, short stories, and poetry. Her writings, and in particular Ceremony, place her in the First Wave of Native American Renaissance.

Please carve out time to read this powerful novel. We meet in a little less than one month, so get reading! Join in-person at the South Euclid/Lyndhurst branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library on South Green Road. Or you can join via Zoom if in-person isn’t possible. See details on this website.
