The Rule

Oct 26, 2023

St. Benedict’s The Rule, while not well known by most readers, is a fascinating little book. This group has read it twice before: in 1951 and 2007. The Rule provides precepts for living a simple life — a simple life but not necessarily an easy life.
Why would we in the modern world be interested in such a book? A question that probably will arise during the discussion. One of themes interwoven throughout The Rule is moderation. Benedict defines all aspects of daily life within the confines of moderation, a value often lost in today’s world.
What else can we take away from reading The Rule? What other values does Benedict promulgate that can aid the reader to successfully navigate the challenges of modern life? Bring your thoughts and reactions to our upcoming meeting on Tuesday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. You can join us in person at the South Euclid branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. You also can join us virtually through Zoom. Questions? Ask me. You can reach me at: renee@greatbookscle.org
